Significant Events In My Life

These are some of the significant events in my life based on what I can remember. I try to remember vividly many of these things as much as possible and although I can remember the specific dates of some, I lost track of time, and the specific dates escaped my memory to many of the other events mentioned here.

March 13, 1984 - I was born at 10:50 am on this day in ALEOSAN District Hospital in Barangay Bancal, Alimodian, Iloilo, Philippines as the first and eldest child of a housewife who is a former nutrionist in Tuguegarao, Cagayan and a head teacher in Alibango Elementary School.

1987 - 1989 - I have a good toddler year I use to play with my childhood friend. I am a little naughty tyke to likes to wrestle by playmate and share toys. I am a bit naughty and crawling around the house each time mom is not nearby. I remember she told me that one day she went to wash clothes outdoors and I crawled towards her but our house is a bit elevated by 6 inches from the ground so when I crawled towards her, I fell to the ground of earth and smeared my body with soil dirt and some of my teeth fell off and fragments of them still remains in my mouth up to this day.

March 15, 1989 - The day when my grandmother died. She was 72 years old then. She is a very religious woman who always goes to church regularly every Sundays and every feast day of saints. She is a member of the Catholic Womens League and also of the charismatic movement because there is always a prayer meeting in our ancestral house where we are still living up to this day but somehow changed through the years. Every prayer meeting in our house, there are always lots of people attending and there some snacks afterwards. During the Lenten Season, she used to prepare lunch for the apostles to eat after their prayers as it is a tradition here during Holy Week that apostles visit each house for prayer and to commemorate the Last Supper of Christ.

I vividly remember grandma because she is so sweet and kind. I always go to her bedside even when she is sick to ask for his comfort whenever my mother would scold me or hit me with something to punish me if I did something wrong.

1989 - I can't exactly remember the date but I can still recall this memory when I was still very young or say I am a toddler then. One time my father brought me to the city. I am not older than 6 years old then.

1989 - The year when I first went to school as a daycare pupil. The school is just in the old convent of our Catholic parish church. Our close relative who is also our neighbor generously volunteer to bring me to school every day and I am so eager and excited always to go to school. I remember she guided me through my writing by making a mark on the paper using her fingernail for me to follow and trace with a pencil and that's how I learned how to write. I can't exactly remember who my first teacher in school is, but I am grateful for that teacher who taught me basic rudiments of writing, storytelling.

At night my father used to tell me stories from children's books usually folk tales and some are good children's books.

As an elementary school principal, he used to receive book donations from other countries most especially from USA he brought most of these book donations to the school library to which he serves which is a barangay school. The few excesses of these books remained at home for us to read and I am happy I can read many of them there are language books, science books and children's books.

One funny incident I can remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old around 1988 - 1989 when my father brought me to the city. It was one of his bad decisions - to bring me with him to the city at a very young age.
